From Our Churches to Your Kitchen: A Cookbook Story + Live Show Recap

From Our Churches to Your Kitchen: A Cookbook Story + Live Show Recap

Last month, we gathered in the Inherit Loft kitchen for something special. We weren’t selling clothes. We weren’t showcasing trends. We were cooking LIVE and celebrating a legacy that’s been simmering in our church kitchens for generations.

From Our Churches to Your Kitchen,  Live from Inherit, a live cooking show inspired by the Apostolic Christian Church Cookbook. My dear friends Jill, Martha, and Jamie joined me, and we had so much fun!

The Story Behind the Cookbook

When I was a new wife and young mom, I found myself constantly asking for recipes. I was being served the most amazing meals, homey, comforting, crowd-pleasing recipes, whenever I gathered with others in our Apostolic Christian Church family. I knew I couldn’t be the only one who wanted these “church favorites” collected in one place.

Other churches had a cookbook…so I took a leap. After church approval, I reached out to our congregation and asked for submissions. Not just any recipes, these were treasured family dishes, secret, company go-to’s, and the “if you know, you know” potluck staples.

And just like that, the Morris, Minnesota Apostolic Christian Church Cookbook was born.

What’s Inside the Cookbook

This is not your average Pinterest round-up. This cookbook is packed with over 1,000 tried-and-true recipes, all submitted by women (and men!) across our church family.

Here’s a taste of what you’ll find:

  • Everyday Meals – from casseroles to slow-cooked comfort

  • Company Dishes – impressive but practical

  • Bars + Desserts – because yes, we love our bars

  • Wild Game Section – venison, fish, and more

  • Breakfast Favorites – including the fan-favorite Impossible Quiche

  • Fun Extras – homemade playdough, a natural bug recipe for apple trees, and more unique non-food fun from the “Miscellaneous” section

The entire book is organized by category, even cooked and uncooked meat, easy to use, and now includes updates and corrections in our Third Edition, along with a fresh new cover and insert pages.

To date, over 11,000 copies of the cookbook have been sold!  That speaks for itself.

Live Show Recap: Breakfast Edition

Our cooking show was themed around breakfast, the kind of meal you prep when hosting weekend guests or just gathering your family for a slow Saturday morning or special Sunday all-together breakfast. We featured four recipes from the cookbook, each one with a story, a memory, and a crowd around the table.

What We Cooked:

  • Impossible Quiche – Amy blended this make-ahead favorite while sharing its special origin (Amy’s grandma and multiple others submitted this one)

  • Caramel French Toast – Jill talked about the family tradition behind this favorite, made with sourdough starter from the 90’s that is still “alive” for Jill and even has a name!  You have to watch the replay to find out!

  • Freezer Frozen Fruit Cups – Jamie mixed up a colorful, prep-ahead treat perfect for a crowd or grab n’ go’s!

  • Orange Julius – Martha mixed up a nostalgic sip blended live that Amy’s family has often!

Throughout the event, we invited our amazing live audience (and our online viewers) to taste each dish, laugh with us, and hear the stories behind the pages.

It was warm, fun, a little messy in the best way, and full of heart.  Check out the live cooking show replay here

Why This Cookbook Matters

This cookbook represents more than recipes. It’s a collection of faithful hospitality, of meals that were prayed over, of people who served others with joy. It’s a connection point between generations, something you can pass to your daughter, gift to a new bride, or open up on a rainy day when you just want to make something familiar and know it will be oh so good!
